Weekend Trip to Check out Lexington, SC?

Planning a weekend trip to Lexington, SC, with the intention of potentially moving here? You’re in for a treat! This charming town offers a delightful blend of natural beauty, vibrant city life, and welcoming neighborhoods. In this blog post, we will take a casual approach to guide you through five must-visit places during your weekend getaway, including downtown Columbia, Sunset Blvd, Lake Murray Dam, Harbison Blvd in Irmo, and neighborhoods that might suit your preferences.

1. Downtown Columbia:
Kickstart your adventure with a trip to downtown Columbia, located just a short drive from Lexington. This bustling area is brimming with history, art, and culinary delights. Take a leisurely stroll along Main Street, where you’ll find a variety of shops, restaurants, and cafes. Don’t miss the chance to explore the vibrant Vista neighborhood, known for its art galleries and lively nightlife scene. Downtown Columbia is also where you will be able to find the award winning, Riverbanks Zoo & Gardens, The State Museum, The Columbia Museum of Art, and Edventure. (The Children’s Museum) If you come on a Saturday morning, be sure to check out the amazing Soda City Market on Main St. It is sure to be a hit!! This will also give you a good idea how the commute will be if you will be working in downtown Columbia. Try to drive it during the times in which you will need to commute. It will give you the best indication of time frame.
2. Sunset Blvd:
Next, venture down Sunset Blvd, also known as Highway 378, which offers a mix of local businesses, shopping centers, and dining options. This will be the location of many of the shopping options available in Lexington. We do have other shopping areas but this will be the main one. It has most of our retail shopping like Target, Khols, TJ Maxx, Ulta, Hobby Lobby, and many others. I also recommend trying this trip at least once during rush hours just to see if it is something that you are okay with handling.
3. Lake Murray Dam:
For a dose of natural beauty, head over to Lake Murray Dam. This iconic landmark offers stunning views of the expansive Lake Murray, where you can indulge in various water activities like boating, fishing, or simply relaxing by the shore. Take a leisurely walk across the dam and soak in the picturesque scenery that surrounds you. You will find a lot of people using the dam for a casual stroll, running, and walking with their children.
4. Harbison Blvd in Irmo:
Just a short drive from Lexington, Harbison Blvd in Irmo is a bustling area that caters to a range of interests. Here, you’ll find a plethora of shopping centers, where you can explore popular stores and enjoy a wide array of dining options. It’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon indulging in some retail therapy or enjoying a delicious meal. This area also hosts the Columbiana Mall which is great for shopping and dining. In the mall, there is also a Dave & Busters which is great for kids and adults alike. In this area, you will also find a Frankies Fun Park which has a lot of arcade games, laser tag, go carts, mini golf, and much more. On the way to Harbison Blvd from Lexington, you can take the dam which kills two birds with one stone. However, the view on the way back from Irmo into Lexington is much better than the view to Irmo.
5. Neighborhoods to Explore:
As you consider making Lexington your new home, take the time to explore different neighborhoods to find the one that suits your lifestyle and preferences. While I have many videos on my youtube channel (The LexiCo Group) of different neighborhoods, I always find it best to take a trip to see them in person. It helps you determine if homes are too close together, too far apart, the neighborhood is well kept, and many other things!
Bonus: I also highly recommend that you check out Downtown Lexington. It is a small quaint area that hosts local restaurants and boutiques. Have lunch here. (O’haras Irish Pub is one of my personal favorites) Just take a little stroll. You can also check out the amphitheater. This is where the town will host many events throughout the year like live music, The Icehouse Market, and the Snowball Festival. Close by you will also find Gibson Pond Park and if reopened when you visit the newly remodeled Virginia Hylton Park.
A weekend trip to Lexington, SC, is the perfect opportunity to discover its hidden gems and explore potential neighborhoods for your future home. From the vibrant downtown area of Columbia and Lexington to the scenic beauty of Lake Murray Dam, there is something for everyone. Take your time, soak in the local ambiance, and imagine yourself becoming a part of this welcoming community. Lexington has much to offer, and we hope this casual guide helps you make the most of your visit and find the perfect place to call home.
